For our troop, a balanced camping meal is a meal that includes everything from the classic four food groups:
- Meats, poultry, fish, dry beans and peas, eggs, and nuts;
- Dairy products, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt;
- Grains
- Fruits and vegetables.
It's not necessary to include them in equal proportions.
So for example:
- Hamburgers (meat) + bun (grain) + lettuce/tomato/baby carrots (vegetable) + real cheese slice (dairy).
- Eggs (eggs) + tortillas (grains) + sausage (meats) + milk (dairy) + orange juice (fruit)
